Restylane®

Restylane® is a non-animal-based hyaluronic acid to augment lip volume and to treat smile and marionette lines, volume to the mid face and under eye area. (A skin test is not required with this products.) This natural product produces long-lasting skin enhancement.

How Restylane® Works

As you age, the years of laughing, smiling, talking and tanning inevitably crease your skin. These factors can leave you with lines and wrinkles. You will also start to notice that the size of your lips has begun to shrink. Restylane® injections can be used for temporary line and wrinkle removal or lip enhancement. It is also used in our practice for the under eye area. It helps with the hollowing to the under eyes and dark circles. Restylane® is injected under the surface of your skin to restore the natural contours of your face. Restylane® is a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid that is specifically formulated to act like your body’s own naturally produced hyaluronic acid, helping to visibly correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds or laugh lines), the corners of the mouth and marionette lines — the area that extends downward from the corners of the mouth to the jawline.

  • Have serious allergies to drugs that have previously required in-hospital treatment

  • Have bleeding disorders

  • Have a known allergy to lidocaine, if using Restylane, Restylane Silk or Restylane Lyft

What to Expect

Restylane® treatment takes about 30 minutes and the amount of discomfort depends on the sensitivity of the patient’s skin. The product is injected just below the surface of the skin with a very fine needle. Patients may require a second visit to achieve a full correction of the area. The body will eventually absorb the product, so ongoing treatments are necessary to maintain results. If treatment is discontinued, your face will gradually return to its natural contours.

Injection-related reactions may occur such as post treatment swelling, redness, pain, itchiness, discoloration, and tenderness at the implant site. These reactions will resolve spontaneously within several days. Patients should avoid aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g. Advil) prior to treatment as they will increase the risk of bruising at the injection site.

Restylane® Side Effects and Risks

After your treatment, you may experience side effects, such as swelling, redness, pain, bruising, headache and itching at injection site and tenderness. These are typically mild in severity and normally last less than 7 days in nasolabial folds and less than 14–18 days in lips. Patients should be limited to 6.0 mL per treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Swelling may be more likely in patients under 36 years, and bruising may be more likely in patients over 35 years.

Cost of Restylane®

The cost of Restylane® varies for each patient, as the number of injections needed increases or decreases with each unique patient. During your consultation with Dr. Mary Pritikin, a plan for treatment will be put together based on your specific cosmetic and financial needs.
